Carvers & Gilders is a partnership established in 1979 which designs, makes, conserves and restores fine carving and gilding.
We have a highly experienced workforce assisted by colleagues in related trades and professions and are able to undertake a wide variety of projects. We have advised on and co-ordinated many large projects for public organisations, private collectors, interior designers, conservation architects and main contractors.
As well as in many private houses, our work can be seen at: Uppark House, Hampton Court, Harewood House, Woburn Abbey, Windsor Castle and Chiswick House.
Carvers & Gilders use traditional methods of woodcarving and gilding to:
- Carve fine decorative appliqués, gilt furniture, mirror frames and ornamental pieces
- Design individual new pieces – contemporary and period
- Cut gesso work
- Lay gold and silver leaf.
Our services include:
- Preparation of condition reports, analyses, treatment proposals and estimates
- Final reports with photographic records
- Full design service
If you are interested in our restoration work, or would like to commission a designed piece, please contact us or send us any available details so that preliminary discussions can be as productive as possible.
If you have ideas you would like to develop, we can prepare sketches and drawings or we can work with your own designs and photographs.
A wide range of visual reference materials is available in the workshop. We encourage clients to work closely with us from initial concept to final completion.
Please make an appointment so that we can be sure to give you our full attention when you visit us.
