Martin Coward has 35 years of experience in stone carving, working at Cathedrals such as Gloucester and Chichester. Employed as a Stone Carver and Assistant to the Master Mason at York Minster, Martin carved many of the scenes on the Great West Doorway and latterly designed and carved the statue of St Peter on the East End.
In 2015 Martin set up his own business as a Stone Carver & Sculptor, based in the Howardian Hills, North of York. Work has included designing and carving pieces for Ripon and St. Albans Cathedral and also teaching and carving for Lincoln Cathedral. He has also played an important role as Carving Module Leader for the Cathedral Workshop Fellowship.
Using hand tools and traditional methods of carving, Martin works sympathetically on heritage buildings and can be contacted regarding restoration, sculpture, memorial and private commissions.
Martin is a member of the York Consortium for Conservation and Craftsmanship.
